About Where Is Ramaphosa?
Welcome to "Where Is Ramaphosa?" – a platform dedicated to tracking the official movements of the President of the Republic of South Africa, Honorable Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa, through flight data.
This project was created to provide transparency and public awareness about presidential travel and activities. By tracking the presidential aircraft, we can indirectly follow the President's official engagements across South Africa and internationally.
How We Track Presidential Movements
Our tracking methodology focuses primarily on the SAAF Squadron 21, the VIP transport squadron of the South African Air Force responsible for transporting the President and other high-ranking government officials.
Key Tracking Elements:
- LMG1 Call Sign: Similar to "Air Force One" in the United States, we track the "LMG1" call sign which is specifically used when the President is onboard.
- Flight Data Sources: We consolidate data from various flight tracking services, official government announcements, and reliable news sources.
- Aircraft Verification: We verify aircraft registration numbers against known presidential fleet aircraft.
The Presidential Fleet
The President of South Africa typically travels on these aircraft from SAAF Squadron 21 (VIP transport squadron):
Boeing 737-800 (ZS-RSA)
Primary presidential aircraft for medium to long-haul flights.
Gulfstream G5 (ZS-GKA)
Used for shorter flights and when visiting locations with shorter runways.
Dassault Falcon 900EX (ZS-FCI)
Alternative executive transport for presidential travel.
Airbus A340
Occasionally chartered from SAA for long-haul international flights.
